The "Teshima Art Museum" created by artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa is set to be built on a small hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea in the area called Karato on Teshima Island. Abandoned rice paddies have been revitalized together with local residents, and at one corner of the vast land, a building shaped like a water droplet has been installed. It features a concrete shell structure with an area of approximately 40×60 meters and a maximum height of 4.3 meters, and it contains no columns. Two openings in the ceiling allow the surrounding wind, sound, and light to flow directly into the interior, creating an organic space where nature and the building respond to each other. Inside, a "spring" is born throughout the day. This landscape communicates an infinite variety of expressions with the changing seasons and the passage of time.

The Heart Archives

10:00 – 17:00 Last admission at 16:30

About 6 km / Approx 25-30 minutes by pedal-assist e-bike

Christian Boltanski has been developing a project to collect heartbeats as a testament to people's lives since 2008.

The "Heart Archives" is a small museum that permanently preserves the heartbeats of people from around the world that the artist has collected and allows visitors to listen to them. You can also record your own heartbeat here.

Shima Kitchen

Open on weekends and holidays only

11:00 - 16:00

Last Order: Lunch 14:00 Drink 15:30

Setouchi International Art Festival 2010 is a gathering place designed and revitalized by architect Ryo Abe, connecting people through "food and art".

The mothers of Teshima are waiting with lunch menus made from the island's rich ingredients, as well as seasonal drinks and desserts. Fun events are held every month on the outdoor open terrace.

Forest of Whispers

Closed due to rain

10:30 - 16:30 / Outdoor works

Approx 5.5 km / About 25-30 minutes by pedal-assist e-bike to Karitooka parking lot

About 1.1 km from the parking lot, approx 20 minutes on foot

(Bicycles and scooters are prohibited due to mountain paths.)

In the forest located on the slopes of Teshima and Danyama, 400 wind chimes sway in the breeze, creating a serene sound installation.

On the papers attached to the wind chimes, the names of loved ones of those who have visited before are inscribed. The sound swaying in the wind evokes the mystery of the soul, memorializing unknown individuals and expressing the strength and transience of human existence.

Viewers can leave the names of their own loved ones anew. Later, the names will be engraved on the paper (plate) as they are written, becoming a part of the artwork and beginning to sway in the wind.
